Anderson .Paak
Anderson .Paak is a drummer, rapper, singer, and songwriter. The child of a Black and Korean mother and Black father, he has won four Grammys as a solo artist, including Best R&B Album (for his fourth album, Ventura), Best R&B Song (“Come Home”), and Best Rap Performance (“Bubblin”). He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, BTS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Andre 3000. Along with multiracial Asian singer and songwriter Bruno Mars, he is also half of the duo Silk Sonic; their debut single, “Leave the Door Open,” won four Grammy Awards.
“My mom was born in Korea — Seoul, Korea — during the '50s, '51. She was abandoned; her and my uncle were abandoned. My grandfather was a Seabee and adopted my mom and my uncle and brought them to Compton in the '50s. That's where she was raised.”

“My mom is half Black and half Korean, so I’m a quarter Korean, but I never knew much about my Korean culture until when I was married to my wife, who is fully Korean. My kids pretty much see themselves as Korean. Raising [biracial] kids, there’s a dynamic of ‘All right, you got this side and you got this side’ and teaching ‘em about both.”
